Fall Fun & Giving: A Day of Growth, Gratitude, and Community

Blossoming Trees | Islamic Center of Boulder | October 19, 2025

Alhamdulillah! Yesterday's Fall Fun & Giving Event was everything we hoped for and more. The Islamic Center of Boulder was filled with laughter, learning, and the beautiful energy of children discovering Islamic values through hands-on experiences.

Building a Tree of Kindness (Ages 3-7)

Our youngest learners started their day by collecting colorful fall leaves and creating beautiful leaf stencils. But the real magic happened when we built our "Tree of Kindness" together. Each child added a leaf representing an act of kindness they could do—sharing toys, helping parents, being kind to friends.

This simple activity carried a powerful message: everyone in our community should be doing acts of kindness to maintain a healthy, successful community. Even our littlest members understand that we all have a role to play.

The children then made their own hummus sandwiches, carefully selecting fresh vegetables to add. They finished their day with a delicious winter squash dessert topped with ice cream, leaving with full bellies and hearts inspired to be kinder.

Principles On and Off the Field (Boys 8-12+)

Our young brothers explored a profound concept: the importance of Islamic principles through the lens of sports. The facilitators led a discussion comparing soccer rules to Islamic guidelines—just as a soccer game cannot succeed without following its principles, our lives thrive when we follow Islamic teachings.

After their thought-provoking discussion, the boys put teamwork into action on the soccer field, then returned inside for a cooking challenge. They softened winter squash in the oven, carefully cut it up, and mixed it with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pecans before returning it to bake. While waiting, they made hummus sandwiches and ate together as a community—experiencing firsthand the barakah of a shared meal prepared by their own hands.

Vision, Creativity, and Sisterhood (Girls 8-12+)

Our young sisters embarked on a journey of self-discovery and creativity. They worked on vision boards, setting goals and dreams for their futures—a powerful exercise in Islamic intentionality and planning.

They decorated pumpkins with beautiful Arabic calligraphy, turning a simple fall craft into an expression of faith. In the kitchen, they collaborated on baking pumpkin spice chocolate muffins, learning not just recipes but the art of working together.

Like the boys, they made their own hummus sandwiches with healthy vegetables. The true spirit of community shone when they enjoyed the winter squash dessert made by the boys while sharing their muffins with everyone. Ice cream brought the perfect sweet ending to a day filled with connection and growth.

It Takes a Village

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers who gave their time and hearts to serve our community.

Sister Mavzuna was our kitchen champion, preparing vegetables for all the youth sandwiches, helping the boys prep the squash, and guiding the girls through baking their muffins. Your behind-the-scenes work made everything possible.

Brothers Essa, Fardin, and Atticus—thank you for leading the boys' program with energy and wisdom. From facilitating discussions to managing registration and coaching the soccer game, your dedication to our young brothers was evident in every moment.

Brother Mohamed—you were a lifesaver at the registration table, welcoming last-minute families and ensuring everyone knew where to go.

Sisters Selma and Sara—your patience and creativity with our youngest learners created such a warm, engaging environment. The Tree of Kindness will be remembered!

Sisters Luley and Hala—you facilitated the girls' program with such care and vision. And Sister Luley, we must give you special recognition: as a young mother with a four-month-old at home, you took time away from mama duty to serve and uplift our young girls. Your sacrifice and dedication embody the spirit of community service.

Sister Randa Moukadem—thank you for handling the grocery shopping and supporting us with countless tasks.

Sisters Jana and Salma —thank you for converting our program plans into beautiful slides for the facilitators to lead their sessions with ease.

The Heart of Community

Yesterday reminded us that building community requires all of us. Our volunteers give with no expectation of return other than seeing their community thrive. Our children learn that Islamic values aren't just taught—they're lived, experienced, and shared.

To every volunteer: JazakAllahu Khair. To every parent who trusted us with your children: thank you. To every child who participated, learned, and grew: you are the future of our ummah.

May Allah accept our efforts and continue to strengthen our bonds as a community. Ameen.
