Our Story

Blossoming Trees to Empower Communities began with a deeply personal realization during the fall of 2021. While many families were quarantined at home, Batoul, our founder— an educator, community leader, and mother — was supporting teachers through remote learning while caring for her two‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old son. She had always invested heavily in his academic growth, but during that time, she noticed something that changed everything: he preferred spending time with his father, where play, laughter, and connection came naturally. With her, interactions had become structured and academic.

For someone who had spent her life empowering students, teachers, and mothers, this moment was humbling. Despite her professional expertise, she felt disconnected from her own child.

That same week, she received a message from the Broomfield Early Childhood Council about a parenting program. She joined immediately. After the very first session, she felt a profound shift. The program offered tools she had never been taught — tools she realized many parents in her community desperately needed. She researched the program and discovered its global reach, multilingual success, and evidence‑based impact.

A question emerged: If an educator needed these skills, what about immigrant and refugee parents raising children between two cultures, often isolated and overwhelmed?

Motivated by this need, and talking to her parents community, Batoul reached out to the Broomfield Early Childhood Council and connected with the program’s funders. After months of conversations and trust‑building, Invest in Kids offered her the opportunity to bring the Incredible Years Parenting Program to her community — with one condition: it had to be delivered in Arabic, a language and community they had never been able to reach.

Before funding was even secured, families were ready to sign up. With support from Invest In Kids, a culturally competent team was trained, and the program began serving Arabic‑speaking parents — a community often marginalized, misunderstood, or left out of mainstream services.

This was the seed of Blossoming Trees to Empower Communities.

As the parenting program grew, families voiced another need: “Our children need a space too — a place where they can be themselves, feel proud of their identity, and connect with others who share their culture and values.”

Drawing on her background in education and curriculum design, Batoul created three youth groups — ages 3–7, 8–12 boys, and 8–12 girls. Each month, children gathered for three hours of social‑emotional learning, character development, cultural activities, physical play, and cooking foods from around the world. These gatherings quickly became a joyful, safe, and culturally grounded space for young people.

Today, both the parenting and youth programs are thriving. And the community continues to ask for more: culturally competent digital literacy classes, support navigating schools and jobs, help launching small businesses, and English‑language classes. Even when families are referred to other organizations, they return with the same message: “We feel seen here. This is where we belong.”

Blossoming Trees to Empower Communities exists for that reason.

To uplift a marginalized immigrant and refugee community. To support first‑generation parents raising second‑generation children between two worlds. To offer families the tools, confidence, and culturally grounded support they deserve. To strengthen families, empower women, and help communities thrive.
