A Day of Fun and Community: Our Muslim Kids & Youth Event Recap

Alhamdulillah! What an incredible day we had at the Islamic Center of Boulder’s Muslim Kids & Youth Event this past Sunday, April 20th. With 60 enthusiastic participants, 10 dedicated volunteers, and over 50 parents enjoying a well-deserved self-care break, the afternoon was filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit.

A Fun-Filled Afternoon for Kids & Youth

From 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, children ages 3.5–13 enjoyed a dynamic program tailored just for them:

  • Active games to get their energy flowing: the participants of all ages participated in fun physical activities and competitions with their peers

  • Storytime sessions featuring “The Great Banned Book Sale” book by Muslim and Arab author Aya Khalil

  • "Our Special Story Cookies" activity, inspired by The Great Banned Books Bake Sale by Aya Khalil, the children enjoyed decorating cookies and creating a variety of cookie design to demonstrate how one community can have a diverse and unique way of sharing their talent and creativity.

  • Personal hygiene and facial care: The girls ages 8-14 enjoyed an exclusive session with our local make up artist who guided them through a personal hygiene guidelines and hands on session of facial care. The girls enjoyed their fun sessions with mirrors, lotions, facial washes and more!

  • Character lessons woven into engaging discussions

  • Meal & bonding with new and old friends

Meanwhile, parents got the rare chance to step away for three hours—whether to relax, run errands, or simply enjoy some quiet time—knowing their kids were in good hands.

Community Support & Delicious Food

A special shout-out to:

  • Our session leaders who provided their services to our youth; male coaches, make up artist and local educator!

  • Our 10 amazing volunteers who helped everything run smoothly.

  • Two local women-owned businesses who tabled their homemade breads and desserts, adding a delicious touch to the event.

  • Our team who prepared fresh, wholesome meals—including hummus, tuna salad, and crisp vegetables—to keep everyone fueled for fun.

Gratitude & What’s Next

None of this would have been possible without the trust of our parents, the hard work of our volunteers, and the enthusiasm of our young participants. We’re already looking forward to hosting more events like this—where kids can grow their social skills and build lasting friendship, and parents can take a breath (or a nap!).

Did your child attend? Share your favorite moments in the comments! And if you missed this one, stay tuned—we’ll have more opportunities soon, insha’Allah.
